Category: Let's talk
Hello guys,
Who went to the NFB convention this year? I did... and it was my first convention. At first, I thought it was overwhelming... and then... I don't know... it was just too much for me. I did enjoy the banquet speech and how some people were willing to help you around and all. but if anyone went, what were your views about it? Do you think some people were a little too... rude? post thought about it here! :)
Well, I wrote a whole post and then it said the site was down and it didn't go through. Anyway, I went and had a good time. I got to meet some friends in person who I only met online before. The hotel was very nice, the food and drinks were good, and enjoyed going to the pool and hot tub every day. I did not run into any rude people, however I did litterally get run into since there was so many people, especially when we went to the exhibit hall. I liked looking at the new tech stuff, but of course Humanware and HIMS notetakers are still very expensive IMO. I did preorder my Victor Reader Trek from Humanware and got a voice recorder from A T Guys. I heard the dance was very loud and could not really talk in there. I did not go to the banquet so don't know how that went. When I went before, banquet food was not that great, which is why I didn't go this time. Over all, had a good time and will be going again.
I'd like to go one year if I can get a sighted asistant to accompany me, as I am quite hard of hearing. Wonder if they offer the little headset things so people can hear what they're saying at the microphone better?
I've always been curious to go for the social and tech aspect, if not the political side. Unfortunately the cost and work schedule barrs me from attending.
I echo post 4. I would love to attend something some year for the social and tech aspects, but I can't unfortunately see life and work ever allowing it to happen! I am glad folks have a good time though and always enjoy hearing about these gatherings.
They do have the headsets, but think you have to request them ahead of time.
I've never been. I'd go for the tech stuff and then spend most of the time at the beach. My limited NFB experience has been loud and crowded.
I have never been, and confess I'm mildly interested in going, more to mingle and meet people than because it's NFB. It'll almost certainly never happen, though, as the cost to get there and back is kind of difficult to justify. If I'm going to spend money like that, it'd probably be to see one person in particular rather than hoping to have fun with a bunch of people I've never met in person before.
Not being a fan of the NFB I've never actually been to one of these, although over the years I have contemplated going to one for the social aspect if nothing else.
I've been to NFB conventions before and had fun in many ways. I don't see myself going to one ever again though.
I did not go this year due to financial reasons, but if given the opportunity, I would certainly go again. If I do go again, it'll be my fifth national convention. Finding time when I can be by myself to recharge will be a challenge, as I am still adjusting to the fact I'm an introvert by nature, but I'll figure it out. If I do go next year, it would only be for a couple days to catch up with people, and attend a seminar or division meeting.
yeah, I did like the food from the banquet. but man, yeah, the dance I didn't go to because I'm not a dancing person. I'm introvert if I'm around people I really don't know. but yeah, the talent show there was amazing. and, even if forced to go to youth track, it was still fun. haha
I even learned about all the tech stuff and might get a echo sometime. not sure... but yeah, the stuff they had was great. I don't know if I'd go again though.. it was overwhelming. :(
